My Development Area

I get asked this question quite a lot, “What tools do you use to Design with?” I always find this a quite ambiguous question because most of the time I use things I see for my designs, and then I realize Ohh they mean for coding. Well here is my list of applications that never leave my side… or dock for that matter.

Web Development
Coda - This has to be my all time favourite tool. I’ve only been using it for about 2 months, but I would say its one of the best all round editors avaliable. Its got a really nice FTP client built into it, you can seperate projects without having to find the folder each time. I do have a few gripes with it though. Its not the best PHP editor out there, but for web design, its my first choice, the CSS part is great especially when your knowledge is as little as mine.

Eclipse - What an amazing Application! I have to say, I haven’t always been a eclipse fan, for a long time I’ve been a Zend Studio man, but after trying out Zend Studio 6.0 I swiftly moved over to eclipse, why o why would Zend choose to well make you use there framework, I want to use Cake god damnit! Anyway back to eclipse, after playing with it, getting it setup the exact way I like it. Its great, a really nice IDE that doesn’t put me in a box so to speak. (If anyone knows how to change the auto-completion so I don’t have to click Enter I would be really grateful as I miss tabbing out.)

Terminal - I still love terminal, and how much I miss it when I have to use windows. One program I do recommend for terminal is iTerm, it lets you have multiple tabbed windows inside of one terminal window which is always useful.

I decided to set up a blog to log my days events and outcomes, I am a Designer, a Programmer and a creative thinker all rolled into one. My passion is to create whether it be a paper hat or a Web site, I love every part of design.

I am also a Developer and am working heavily with CakePHP at the moment, everything I learn will be posted in this blog, so watch this space!

My current system is a MacBook I love it very much, I work at the Apple Store along with being a student (Sometimes). I try and fit in as much Freelance work as possible there are 24 hours in the day after all.
